A new mobile health app intended to help individuals manage gambling addiction has received support from Southampton Football Club.
RecoverMe, a mobile application which intends to empower its users to manage their gambling addiction and habits has received the support of Southampton Football Club.
What is RecoverMe?
RecoverMe is a mobile application developed by three junior doctors Minal Jain, Tejus Patel and Adil Nayeem and is intended to help make treatment options and supports “more accessible and affordable for those suffering with gambling addiction.”
The app began life as a prototype more than two years ago and is centred around using scientifically proven Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This allows users to manage their addiction by reflecting on their gambling habits, challenging thoughts and feelings around gambling and enabling access to mindfulness sessions.
In addition to this, the app includes access to self-help exercises and an emergency helpline.
Speaking on the launch of the app and partnership with Southampton FC, RecoverMe’s co-founder, Minal Jain, said: “We wholeheartedly believe RecoverMe will provide a lifeline to those suffering in silence.
“It has been incredible to see how motivated Southampton are in creating this meaningful change and we are extremely excited to be working with them to do this and we hope this is just the beginning.”
The app’s design, features and structure have all been developed and created in consultation with psychiatrists, psychologists and individuals currently suffering from gambling addiction.
Support from Southampton FC
Southampton FC will support the launch of the new app and will aim to provide a significant contribution to the growth and accessibility of the app. This will form part of what the team calls “a responsibility to raise awareness of the support available for those that might need it.”
David Thomas, Southampton Football Club’s chief commercial officer, added: “I am delighted to announce the club’s support for RecoverMe. The club takes its responsibility to promote responsible gambling extremely seriously and it is important that we are proactive in exploring new opportunities to implement our commitment to this cause.
“We’re proud to support the launch of the RecoverMe app and I am excited by the chance to work with an organisation so closely aligned to our values.”
By investing in the app, the team will offer funds for further development which will be used to add additional features to assist with recovery and also subsidise the costs for those users who require more support.
RecoverMe will also work with the team to expand and raise awareness of the support that is available on the app for those people who struggle to manage gambling habits and extend its reach so that as many users as possible can benefit from it.
