PSG vs Liverpool Betting Preview

Liverpool head to the French capital on Wednesday for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain. The fixture at the Parc des Princes kicks off at 8pm GMT on Wednesday, March 5th, and will be broadcast on TNT Sports 1 in the UK. After finishing at the top of the pile in the League Phase, Liverpool will probably have hoped for an easier task than facing French big guns PSG in this knockout tie. Les Parisiens had to come through a play-off to reach this stage and they comprehensively downed domestic rivals Brest, winning 10-0 on aggregate.

The hosts come into this game in red-hot form with 10 successive wins across all competitions and they have enjoyed some success over English opponents in this competition, as they claimed a 4-2 win over Manchester City in France, but they did lose at Arsenal earlier in the League Phase. Liverpool finished the first round of the Champions league with 21 points from a possible 24.  The Reds did lose at PSV in the final round of games but that fixture was essentially a dead-rubber for a much-changed Arne Slot’s side. The Premier League leaders come into Wednesday’s first leg in fine form themselves, with three wins in their last four fixtures.

Tip 1: Paris Saint-Germain to win @ 11/8 with Sky Bet

Liverpool are deserved favourites to win the tie and ultimately they may well make it through to the quarter-finals, but they may need to come from behind to see off PSG.

Luis Enrique’s side are in scintillating form with 10 wins in a row and they’ve scored a whopping 39 goals during that run – conceding just seven themselves.

PSG have lost just once at home all season and that was a smash-and-grab win for Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Liverpool’s away form lately has been mixed with three wins, three draws and three losses in their last nine across all competitions, so PSG look backable at 11/8 to win on Wednesday.

Tip 2: Mohamed Salah 3+ foul involvement @ 5/2 with Sky Bet

Among the plethora of player bet options, the 5/2 on Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to have three or more foul involvements looks a strong option.

Salah is fouled on average exactly once per-game across all competitions and he commits 0.6 per-game himself. He’s also committed three fouls in total across his last four Champions League games so may be called up for an infringement on Wednesday, but what really makes this selection stand out is he will be matched up against Nuno Mendes for large periods in Paris.

In PSG’s League Phase games against the bigger teams – City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Atleti – Mendes committed eight fouls in total and he himself is fouled on average 2.0 times per-game in Europe, so three or more foul involvements for Salah has a good chance.

Tip 3: Joao Neves anytime goalscorer @ 11/1 with Sky Bet

Joao Neves isn’t a regular scorer for PSG but he does pop up with some key goals so at 11/1 he catches the eye for an anytime goal.

Neves comes into the game in good form with a goal and an assist in his last two appearances.

His strikes this season have included an effort against Man City in PSG’s 4-1 win and a goal in Marseille in a Ligue 1 Le Classique, so Neves clearly relishes the big occasion and he can make his mark on another huge European night.
