Premier League Gameweek 23 Preview

There are some tasty fixtures in store this weekend when the Premier League’s 23rd gameweek pits a couple of title contenders against two relegation candidates.

Liverpool will look to extend their six-point lead at the top when they host an Ipswich side fresh from a 6-0 home shellacking at the hands of Manchester City.

And Arsenal cannot afford any more slip-ups when they head to Molineux to face a Wolves side in bad form.

Brighton’s home date with Everton, Manchester United’s trip to Fulham and a top-five clash between Manchester City and Chelsea are the other games to keep an eye on this weekend.

Under 2.5 goals in Brighton v Everton @ 10/11 with bet365

Brighton are favoured to build on their impressive 3-1 victory at Old Trafford by securing another three points at home to Everton, but it won’t be straightforward against David Moyes’ men.

The Toffees have lost only three of their last eight away league games and generally keep it pretty tight at the back on the road.

Seven of Everton’s last eight road games have featured two goals or fewer and that trend tallies with Brighton’s recent home performances, which have also been low-scoring,

The Seagulls have failed to score more than once in their last four home matches with three of those encounters unable to produce a third goal on the day.

Brighton’s home struggles and Everton’s improved away form suggest that the match might also be closer than the current league positions indicate.

Fulham to score over 1.5 goals against Manchester United @ 11/10 with bet365

Fulham have found the back of the net pretty regularly recently but they seem to have a problem when it comes to grabbing the often so-important third goal.

Marco Silva’s men have scored exactly two goals in six of their last seven Premier League matches, but won only two of those fixtures.

They will fancy their chances of bagging at least a brace when Manchester United visit Craven Cottage on Sunday. The Red Devils have been beset by defensive issues and shipped three at home to Brighton last weekend.

Ruben Amorim’s team have conceded two or more goals in four of their last six top-flight away trips while scoring only six goals themselves during that run.

So two goals may well prove to be enough for Fulham to grab all three points this weekend.

James McAtee to score last vs Chelsea @ 10/1 with bet365

Goals are likely to be abundant when two Premier League heavyweights with potent attacks and dodgy defences clash at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Man City will need to freshen up after their midweek misstep against Paris Saint-Germain and that could see James McAtee handed his long-awaited first Premier League start for the club.

The young midfielder started 20 top-flight games for Sheffield United last season and scored three goals for the struggling Blades. He has already hit the back of the net five times for City this season, including a hat-trick the last time he appeared at the Etihad Stadium.

Although it is perhaps coincidental, it is worth noting that McAtee has scored the final goal in all three games where he has been on the scoresheet this term.

And at odds of 10/1 to be the last goalscorer in Saturday’s clash with Chelsea, the 20-year-old could be well worth siding with to have the final say.
