Figures released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) show that sportsbooks in New Jersey took $313m in sports bets in April.
April’s total handle is a slight decrease from the $372m wagered on sporting events in March.
This should come as no surprise considering how much was wagered on March Madness events, and the lack of major league sporting events in April.
In terms of revenue, bookies in the state generated more than $21m from sports betting operations in April. This is a slight decrease from the $31.7m generated the month prior.
For the fourth consecutive month, online wagers accounted for 80% of sports betting handle which amounted to more than $253m.

Under its Meadowlands license, FanDuel Sportsbook’s online operations generated $8.7m in sports betting revenue while land-based operations generated $3.3m. Meadowlands was the only land-based sportsbook that managed to generate more than $1m.
This marks the third consecutive month that FanDuel has posted the highest sports betting revenue in New Jersey.
DraftKings followed close behind FanDuel in April. Under the Resorts Digital license, DraftKings online sports betting operations generated over $4.7m, while land-based sports betting operations at Resorts generated just $245,717 in revenue.
The only other bookie in New Jersey that managed to generate more than $1m was William Hill.
Under the Monmouth Park license, William Hill and SugarHouse generated a combined revenue of $1.7 from online betting. The land-based William Hill sportsbook at Monmouth Park generated $761,316 in revenue.
Online casino growth
Although sports betting figures in April saw a slight drop, online casino operations saw a significant increase in revenue.
Online poker and casino in the Garden State generated more than $36m in revenue. This marks the second highest month for online gambling in the state’s history. April’s online casino growth saw a 60% year on year increase.
This growth in online casino revenue can be attributed to the integration of online sportsbooks and online casino platforms.
Online sportsbooks such as SugarHouse, FanDuel and DraftKings host online casino platforms that can attract sports bettors. These online casinos can be accessed from an operators sports betting app, making it even easier for punters to access them.
