Looking closer at the figures
The MGC places Mississippi’s casino sportsbooks into three different categories based on their location – coastal, central and northern.
Mississippi’s coastal sportsbooks were the most popular in September after processing $25.3m in sports bets and holding onto $3.5m.
Sportsbooks in the Northern region came in second place after generating $1.3m in revenue from $7.4m in sports wagers.
The state’s central sportsbooks were the lowest-performing after processing $5.1m in wagers and holding onto $780,797.
Football dominates in September
Football was the most popular sport to bet on in the state in September. Mississippi bettors wagered a total of $25.7m on football games with sportsbooks holding onto a total of $2.9m.
With football season in full swing, it should come as no surprise that football is the most popular sports amongst bettors. In states such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the start of football season has boosted sports betting handle and revenue at sportsbooks.
Parlay cards were the next popular amongst bettors with sportsbooks processing $6.5m in parlays and winning $2.2m
Baseball was the third most popular sport after bettors wagered $4.9m on the sport and sportsbooks held onto $411,640.
