Liverpool Vs PSG Betting Preview

The stage is set for another classic European night at Anfield as Liverpool host Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.

The contest is finely poised after the Reds snatched a 1-0 first-leg win in the French capital with a late goal from substitute Harvey Elliott.

The big match kicks off at 8pm GMT on Tuesday, March 11th, and will be broadcast on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.

Tip 1 – Paris Saint-Germain to win – 15/8 with Paddy Power

PSG  must still be scratching their heads over how they failed to win the first leg, let alone how they lost. The Ligue 1 giants dominated the match, peppering the Liverpool goal with 18 shots, 10 of them on target, winning 14 corners to Liverpool’s two.

The home side had more than 70 per cent of the ball and, while they will be disappointed about the result, they should have been left in no doubt that they are capable of turning the tie around at Anfield.

The venue is arguably Liverpool’s greatest advantage in this match as they have a phenomenal home record in this competition on Merseyside. The Reds won all four of their home matches in the league phase, including victories over Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

PSG lost on the road to Arsenal and Bayern Munich in the league phase, but they dispatched Manchester City 4-2 in Paris and won 4-1 away in Stuttgart in their final two games and breezed past Brest in the play-off round with a 10-0 aggregate triumph.

They were able to rest players in Saturday’s comfortable 4-1 win at Rennes, which was their 11th win in their last 12 games, while Liverpool failed to impress against Premier League back-markers Southampton on Saturday, winning 3-1 with two Mohamed Salah penalties after trailing 1-0 at half-time.

A fast start from the visitors could quickly turn the tie on its head and they are worthy of support to win the second leg.

Tip 2 – Ousmane Dembele anytime goalscorer – 15/8 with Paddy Power

Ousmane Dembele has scored 27 goals in 33 appearances this season, including six in nine Champions League matches.

The PSG forward scored five of those European goals on the road, including a hat-trick in Stuttgart, and should prove a major threat to Liverpool.

Dembele was not required to start the league game against Rennes, but came off the bench for a 26-minute appearance to stay sharp and notched two late goals.

Lille, Ipswich, Wolves and Southampton have all got on the scoresheet in Liverpool’s last six matches at Anfield and Dembele could find a way past impressive home goalkeeper Alisson in the second leg.

Tip 3 – Paris Saint-Germain to win 3-1 correct score – 18/1 with Paddy Power

For a big-priced selection on the match, consider a 3-1 win for the visitors.

PSG have registered 30 shots on target in their last three matches – compared to 11 by Liverpool over the same period – and had enough opportunities to score at least three goals in the first game, despite being shut out.

They may need three or more to progress to the quarter-finals after 90 minutes as Liverpool will also fancy their chances of getting a goal, given that they have scored in 15 of their last 16 matches and netted 10 goals in their four home league phase matches.

There should be no holding back from either side and a relatively high-scoring game could be the result.
