Girona vs Liverpool Betting Preview

The Champions League leaders Liverpool are looking for their sixth successive win in this season’s competition when they travel to Girona on Tuesday (17:45 kick-off, live on TNT Sports 1).

Arne Slot’s side are already assured of a place in the play-offs, but will be keen to avoid those extra fixtures and secure a guaranteed spot in the round of 16 by finishing in the top eight.

While the Reds are leading the Champions League table, Girona are down in 30th position, having only earned three points from a possible 15.

Well-rested Liverpool ready to go again

Liverpool could have been coming into this match off the back of a gruelling Merseyside derby, but their scheduled game against Everton on Saturday was postponed due to the gale-force winds of Storm Darragh.

That has given the Merseysiders a week to recover from a draining 3-3 draw at Newcastle and they now face Girona with a full-strength side, with no need to rotate.

The Reds will be keen to get back to winning ways having dropped points at the Magpies, with there also being the motivation of securing a top-eight spot early and being able to rest players in future Champions League fixtures.

Girona will be spirited opponents, with the Spanish minnows needing to pick up points fast, from a daunting set of fixtures that see them face AC Milan and Arsenal, following this match.

Their Champions League dream has quickly become a nightmare, with the LaLiga outfit having lost four of their five games so far.

Michel’s team might be up against it in terms of qualifying for the knockout rounds, but they still have the opportunity to bloody the nose of a European giant, before their campaign is done.

Tip 1: Anytime Assist – Mohamed Salah @ 9/4

At 32 years old and in what could be his final season for his club, Mohamed Salah is showing no signs of slowing down.

The Egyptian has scored 15 goals this season and has also recorded 12 assists, totalling 27 goal involvements from just 21 appearances.

Most of Salah’s goals have come in the Premier League, notching 13 in the English top-flight and only finding the net once in the Champions League.

With the forward producing four assists in five European games, there is more value in backing him to be a provider than a scorer against Girona.

Tip 2: Liverpool to win to nil @ 17/10

Liverpool’s success in the Champions League this season has been based upon their defensive solidity.

After going behind after just three minutes of their opening game against AC Milan, which they eventually won 3-1, the Reds have not conceded a goal, keeping clean sheets in four consecutive games.

When you consider that the latest two shutouts came against fine attacking sides Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid, the size of Girona’s task becomes apparent.

The Spanish minnows have failed to find the net in three of their five Champions League fixtures.
