FanDuel Sportsbook app goes live in West Virginia

Mobile sports betting has finally returned to West Virginia

On Monday, FanDuel’s sports betting app launched for iOS and Android devices in the state of West Virginia.

The launch of FanDuel Sportsbook in the Mountain State comes just in time for football season and fills a gap left in the state’s sports betting market after the state’s first and only mobile betting platform shut down six months ago.

With the launch of FanDuel’s app, West Virginia will now join the other state’s with mobile betting, which includes New JerseyPennsylvaniaNevada and Iowa.

FanDuel in West Virginia

FanDuel was one of the first sportsbooks to serve the state after opening a land-based sportsbook at The Greenbrier last year. However, The Greenbrier is a private club owned by the family of West Virginia’s Governor Jim Justice, making it less than an ideal venue for members of the public.

Since FanDuel launched betting operations at The Greenbrier last September, the sportsbook has generated less than $500,000 in revenue, but that is likely to change with the launch of the app.

The FanDuel app was launched under the licensing agreement with The Greenbrier. With the FanDuel app, bettors will be able to create accounts, deposit funds and place wagers from anywhere within state lines, making it much more convenient for residents to bet on sports. To use the app, users must be located within state lines.

In a press release, Dr Jill Justice, President of The Greenbrier, said: “We are incredibly excited that this new app is available for download, and the timing couldn’t be better with football season and A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier right around the corner.

“We hope sports fans across the state will try out the app and then some visit the amazing FanDuel Sportsbook retail location here at America’s Resort.”

More operators to come

While FanDuel is currently the only mobile sports betting platform in West Virginia, more sports betting apps are expected to be launching in the coming weeks.

Residents can expect DraftKings Sportsbook to come to the state relatively soon under the operators licensing agreement with Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

Under its agreement with the Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack, & Resort, William Hill will also be rolling out its app very soon.

PointsBet and The Stars Group are also set to enter the Mountain State after securing market access deals with Penn National Gaming last month.

FanDuel in the US

FanDuel is taking the US sports betting market by storm. In New Jersey, the daily fantasy sports provider turned betting company is the market leader for sports betting.

While FanDuel was the fourth operator to launch a betting app in Pennsylvania, it is catching up with the competition. In July, more than $3m was wagered through FanDuel in the Keystone State.

FanDuel is currently poised to enter several other US states in the coming months.
