What a set of Quarter-Finals that was! We’re now down to the final four teams, with hosts England playing Sweden tonight, and Germany and France going head-to-head tomorrow night. It’s the business end of the tournament, and all four teams will feel like they have an outright chance of winning the tournament.
England vs. Sweden
After a completely faultless group stage for England, they faced their first real test in their Quarter-Final against Spain. It looked as if they were crashing out until a late goal from Ella Toone before they secured a Semi-Final berth thanks to a screamer from Georgia Stanway. Like their male counterparts, the Lionesses are well-versed in tournament heartbreak, but this year feels different. Under Sarina Wiegman, they have proven themselves to be one of the best teams in the world, with quality players across the pitch.
Sweden topped their group thanks to two wins and a draw, and then finally broke down Belgium’s defences in the 92nd minute of their Quarter-Final to win 1-0, despite having 33 shots to Belgium’s three. Considering both teams’ performances so far in the tournament and the fact it’s a home tournament for Wiegman’s side, everything points to an England victory, which is reflected in their odds of 19/20 to win the game in normal time with STS Bet. Beth Mead is having a fantastic Euros and is the tournament’s top scorer, and don’t be surprised if we see her pull another big performance out of the bag tonight. She is 57/10 to score first with STS Bet.
Germany vs. France
Germany are the only team other than England to win every game of the tournament so far, and have looked irresistible so far, scoring 11 goals in their four games and conceding none. They made light work of pre-tournament favourites Spain in the groups, and look a real threat.
France on the other hand have blown hot and cold throughout the tournament. At times they have looked sensational, and worthy of being one of the favourites to win it all, and then at others, they have looked frail – particularly in their shock draw with minnows Iceland in the groups. They squeezed past the Netherlands thanks to an extra time penalty from Ève Périsset and find themselves in the final four despite never really finding top gear. However, if it all it clicks into place, they are one of the most dangerous sides in world football and can beat anyone. This has the potential to be a scrappy game, and the Under 2.5 goals at 4/7 with 888 Sport could be a solid bet.
