DraftKings Sportsbook announced the hiring of former Wynn Resorts Sportsbook Director, Johnny Avello.
Avello will be based in DraftKings’ Nevada office and his role will include the oversight of retail sportsbook trading and risk management.
Avello, 65, has a wealth of experience on the sports betting front in Las Vegas and has spent 13 years at Wynn.
Matt Kalish, DraftKings Co-Founder and Chief of Revenue said: “Johnny is considered a legend in Las Vegas.
“He is very respected in the gaming industry and brings well over 30 years of experience, insights and ideas to DraftKings. We’re committed to building a world-class sports betting operation by putting together amazing talent with diverse experiences and backgrounds, and Johnny’s arrival brings us one step closer to that goal.”
This news comes weeks after it was announced that Frank Kunovic would be joining DraftKings as director of retail sportsbook operations.
Kunovic formerly worked at Caesars for more than 15 years where he oversaw 20 Caesars Sportsbooks and Racebooks.
DraftKings also hired Jamie Shea from International Gaming Technology as Head of Digital Sportsbooks Operations and former Amelco Executive, Sean Hurley, who joined as Head of Commercial Growth.
There have been rumors swirling around that DraftKings is looking to launch sportsbook operations in Nevada.
Although these are just rumors, the recent hires provide some strong evidence for it, especially considering that two of the company’s newest members have a great deal of experience in retail sportsbook operations.
If true, DraftKings will still need to apply for a license to operate in the state.
