Champions League Matchday 4 Preview

Champions League Matchday Four Preview

The new-look league phase for the 2024/25 Champions League is in full swing and this week provides Matchday Four, with teams set to continue jostling for position.

With games set to take place over Tuesday and Wednesday this week, here’s a closer look at four encounters across the continent that offer value.

Tip 1: Dinamo Zagreb to beat Slovan Bratislava @ 19/20

Sitting rock bottom of the Champions League standings after the first three rounds of fixtures, it’s been a miserable start for Slovan Bratislava and next they host Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night.

Losing their opening game of the league phase 5-1 against Celtic in Glasgow, Slovan then lost 4-0 at home to Manchester City, before a 2-0 defeat on the road at Girona.

Next they face a Dinamo side who have shown signs of progress after a 9-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in their opening game.

Disappointed to throw away a lead to draw 2-2 at home to Monaco, Dinamo impressed with a 2-0 win in Salzburg and are good value for the victory over Slovan on Tuesday.

Tip 2: Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen to draw @ 16/5 with Bet365

Draw specialists Bayer Leverkusen might be content to leave Anfield with a point when they face high-flying Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Drawing four of their last five games in the league, reigning Bundesliga champions have been struggling to find the winning form that guided them to the German title last term.

With stalemates against Bayern Munich, Brest and Werder Bremen, Leverkusen have drawn all of their last three away games in all competitions.

Taking on a Liverpool side flying at the top of the Premier League table, Leverkusen might play for, and acquire, yet another draw on Tuesday.

Tip 3: Aston Villa to beat Club Brugge @ 11/10 with Bet365

After the disappointment of a 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, Aston Villa can get back to winning ways when they travel to Club Brugge on Wednesday night.

Unai Emery’s side have enjoyed a perfect start to their first season in the Champions League, winning their opening three games against Young Boys, Bayern Munich and Bologna without conceding a single goal.

Wednesday’s opponents have looked strong domestically, but have not been able to transfer that form to the Champions League.

Losing four of their last five games, Brugge has struggled in this competition, and Villa is a good value in maintaining their perfect start with another three points here.

Tip 4: Inter Milan to beat Arsenal @ 8/5 with Bet365

Wednesday night will also see Arsenal look to get back to winning ways as they make the tough trip to the San Siro to face Inter Milan.

The Gunners suffered a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Premier League at the weekend and Mikel Arteta’s side have now won just one of their last five away games in all competition.

That win was against Preston North End in the EFL Cup and Inter will certainly pose a much sterner test than the Lilywhites.

Inter have drawn at Man City, before beating Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys in their last two outings in the Champions League. The Gunners will be a tough nut to crack, but Inter have won seven of their last eight games in a recent unbeaten run in all competitions and should have enough to add to Arsenal’s woes on the road.
