There was a frenetic buzz in basketball circles last week when Kevin Durant requested a trade out of Brooklyn.
DraftKings unveiled ‘Next Team’ odds for the superstar, and the Phoenix Suns quickly became the heavy favorites to land him. However, another possible suitor has emerged in recent days.
The Toronto Raptors were +3000 longshots to acquire Durant last week but have jumped all the way up to +350 as rumors persist that they could be a suitable destination.
The Suns are still the favorites at -110, although those odds are not as strong as they were at the outset of Durant mania.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said Toronto would be the most “seamless” trade option, and anything the highly-plugged-in insider reveals is given heavy weight.
The Brooklyn Nets have reportedly told Durant they will work with him on a trade, though the odds of him staying in Brooklyn sit at +350, tied with Toronto for the second-best odds.
Phoenix remains the favorite because it’s reportedly where he wants to end up. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported this week that Durant’s preference is to play in Phoenix alongside star shooting guard Devin Booker.
However, trade terms must still be agreed to, and it’s unclear if the Suns can put together a package that entices Brooklyn enough to deal Durant to Phoenix, or if they can find a third team to help orchestrate the trade.
The Suns’ odds of landing K.D. have diminished in recent days, going from as high as -250 last week to the current price of -110, as of July 6. Phoenix is still the favorite to acquire Durant, but the longer it goes, the higher the possibility exists that another suitor could emerge.
