Kevin Durant has reportedly requested a trade out of Brooklyn, and there is wide speculation that the Phoenix Suns are his preferred destination.
DraftKings and BetMGM sportsbooks took down their NBA championship odds after news of the trade request broke, but FanDuel kept its up, and the Suns quickly zoomed to the top of the list.
The Suns were as high as +550 odds to win the 2022-23 title and have since settled in as co-favorites with the Golden State Warriors at +600 odds.
Phoenix had the best regular season record in the NBA last year but were shocked in the Western Conference Semifinals by the Dallas Mavericks.
Phoenix is expected to move on from star center and restricted free agent Deandre Ayton, who would be a natural headliner in a sign-and-trade for Durant. The Suns also have a pair of intriguing wings in Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson who could also possibly be pieces to a deal.
Durant would pair with Devin Booker and Chris Paul as one of the most potent trios in the NBA. Booker was on the short-list of MVP candidates last season and Durant has spoken highly of him in the past.
The Suns had +900 title odds before news of a potential trade for Durant broke. The Miami Heat are reportedly Durant’s other preferred destination, and their odds were sitting at +1000 to win the title, as of early afternoon on Thursday.
The situation is rapidly developing, and the odds could see major shifts in the coming hours and/or days, but for now, FanDuel seems to believe the Suns are in good shape to land Durant and become one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA.
