Training camps are hitting full swing and the start of the NFL regular season is creeping closer.
While optimism abounds at every location, certain teams have a much more legitimate chance at hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in February than others.
Here is a look at the Super Bowl odds for every team, per BetMGM on July 27, broken down into six tiers.
Tier 1 — The Favorites
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in last year’s Super Bowl, and those two teams begin at the top of the 2023-24 Super Bowl odds.
There is a clear-cut top five this season, with the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers all seen as legitimate championship contenders.
This section is self-explanatory. Every team has a superstar quarterback, a ridiculously talented roster, or both.
- Kansas City Chiefs +600
- Philadelphia Eagles +700
- Buffalo Bills +800
- Cincinnati Bengals +900
- San Francisco 49ers +900
Tier 2 — The Lurkers
The next tier includes an interesting group of five teams.
The New York Jets landed Aaron Rodgers this offseason and have flanked him with talent. If the defense is as good as last year, they could make a serious jump as long as Rodgers transitions smoothly. The Dallas Cowboys are good every year but have yet to get over that playoff hump.
The Baltimore Ravens inked Lamar Jackson to a contract extension this offseason and need him to stay healthy, while the upstart Detroit Lions are getting some serious love. The Miami Dolphins had the look of a contender at times in 2022 but injuries to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa derailed their hopes.
- Dallas Cowboys +1600
- New York Jets +1600
- Baltimore Ravens +2000
- Detroit Lions +2000
- Miami Dolphins +2000
Tier 3 — The Upside Brigade
The next group has upside but beauty may be in the eye of the beholder. Are the Jacksonville Jaguars ready to make the leap to serious contention behind burgeoning star quarterback Trevor Lawrence?
The Los Angeles Chargers have lost some shine after a shaky 2022 but have a star quarterback in Justin Herbert along with a new play-caller that may elevate the offense. The Seattle Seahawks were arguably the most pleasant surprise in the NFL last year and have a roster that’s getting better. Contention could happen, though Geno Smith needs to keep playing well.
The Cleveland Browns have all sorts of talent, but need Deshaun Watson to return to a star level of play after his 2022 suspension for sexual misconduct.
- Jacksonville Jaguars +2500
- Los Angeles Chargers +2800
- Seattle Seahawks +3000
- Cleveland Browns +3500
Tier 4 — The Middling Quartet
Next up is the group with some talent, but with questions at the game’s most important position. Can Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr or Russell Wilson lead their teams to a Super Bowl?
It’s possible, though recent history allows for major question marks. The Steelers have one of the best defenses in the NFL but Kenny Pickett has much to prove in his second season.
- Minnesota Vikings +4000
- New Orleans Saints +4000
- Denver Broncos +5000
- Pittsburgh Steelers +5000
Tier 5 — The Longshots
Big ole group of teams here as we drop more into longshot territory. Some are trending up, others down, but between quarterback questions and roster deficiencies, it’s going to take myriad surprising strides in order for any of these teams to jump into contention.
Color me most intrigued by the Bears. Teams can improve quickly as the game slows down for their quarterback and talent is placed around him. I don’t think an NFC North title is out of the question in Chicago.
Don’t let me down, Justin Fields!
- Atlanta Falcons +6600
- Chicago Bears +6600
- Green Bay Packers +6600
- Los Angeles Rams +6600
- New England Patriots +6600
- New York Giants +6600
- Tennessee Titans +6600
- Carolina Panthers +8000
- Las Vegas Raiders +8000
- Washington Commanders +8000
Tier 6 — The Hopeless
There are some good players on these teams, but here’s what the starting quarterback situations are expected to look like to begin the season: rookie, rookie, Baker Mayfield, Colt McCoy.
Hopeless.
- Indianapolis Colts +10000
- Houston Texans +15000
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers +150000
- Arizona Cardinals +20000
