Three teams with promising young quarterbacks are on the rise in this week’s power rankings.
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles look like the class of the NFC early on, while Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence are showing signs of breakout campaigns for the Dolphins and Jaguars, respectively.
Where do the teams land? Here are my power rankings heading into Week 3:
1. Buffalo Bills (2-1)
Last week: 1
The Bills lost, but the game was on the road, they moved the ball and had myriad chances to win. Buffalo has some injuries in the secondary that are concerning but this blip is not a big deal. The Bills stay atop the pack.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (3-0)
Last week: 5
The Eagles lead the NFC in point-differential and are undefeated after smashing the Commanders last time out. Jalen Hurts has the second-best odds to win MVP at DraftKings. This team certainly looks for real.
3. Baltimore Ravens (2-1)
Last week: 6
Lamar Jackson is playing like a potential MVP again, and the Ravens picked up a solid win last week against the Patriots. Baltimore has the look of a contender.
4. Miami Dolphins (3-0)
Last week: 7
The Dolphins are one of the most pleasant surprises of the earlygoing. Tua Tagovailoa has vaulted himself into early MVP chatter and wins over the Patriots, Ravens and Bills to begin the year are super impressive. This team has staying power.
5. Kansas City Chiefs (2-1)
Last week: 4
The Chiefs shot themselves in the foot in the loss to the Colts. I’m not too worried.
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)
Last week: 3
Wide receiver injuries have taken their toll on the Bucs, who lost a close one this week to the Packers. The defense is elite, and I think the offense will be fine. I think…
7. Green Bay Packers (2-1)
Last week: 9
The passing game is not clicking on all cylinders, but Green Bay did pick up a nice win on the road against the Buccaneers. Are they a true contender? Time will tell.
8. Los Angeles Rams (2-1)
Last week: 11
The Rams dropped a couple of easy touchdown passes against the Cardinals but still remained in control throughout the contest. I don’t think this is the juggernaut of 2021, but Los Angeles still has a formidable group.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1)
Last week: 19
The Jaguars stomped the Chargers last week. Is Jacksonville really ready to go from bottom-feeder to divisional champ? It’s not out of the question.
10. Denver Broncos (2-1)
Last week: 10
The Broncos keep sneaking away with wins. The defense looks good, but Denver won’t truly be a contender unless Russell Wilson improves.
11. San Francisco 49ers (1-2)
Last week: 8
It’s been an offensive slog for the 49ers thus far, which seems to be something we say early in every season. Can they turn it on like last year?
12. Cincinnati Bengals (1-2)
Last week: 12
The Bengals got back on track against the Jets, as the wide receiver corps showed off its impressive depth. If Joe Burrow plays like that, Cincy will be back in the AFC mix.
13. Los Angeles Chargers (1-2)
Last week: 2
Big drop for the Chargers, who not only lost convincingly to Jacksonville, but has been ravaged by injuries early on. Maybe this team really is cursed.
14. Minnesota Vikings (2-1)
Last week: 13
The Vikings did a nice job of rallying for a win over the Lions, but it wasn’t a convincing victory. It feels like Minnesota is going to be a .500 ballclub again.
15. Detroit Lions (1-2)
Last week: 16
The Lions have really impressed early on, but they need to turn solid displays into something more tangible on the scoreboard at the end of games in order to truly make a playoff push.
16. Cleveland Browns (2-1)
Last week: 21
The Browns would be 3-0 if not for a humongous late-game letdown against the Jets. The running game is elite, but I don’t trust Jacoby Brissett, and it’s hard to know if Myles Garrett will miss some time after a scary car accident on Monday.
17. New Orleans Saints (1-2)
Last week: 14
The Saints have a very good defense but the start to the season has been poor. They need to turn things around quickly.
18. Indianapolis Colts (1-1-1)
Last week: 23
Huge win over the Chiefs on Sunday. The Colts needed a lot of things to go their way in order for it to happen, but they got the job done to keep pace with Jacksonville.
19. Dallas Cowboys (2-1)
Last week: 20
This defense is super impressive. Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence are a problem on the edge, and Cooper Rush has done a nice job at quarterback in Dak Prescott’s stead.
20. Tennessee Titans (1-2)
Last week: 24
The Titans got back to the winning formula on Sunday against the Raiders, but with the Jaguars looking strong, it’s going to be an uphill battle to beat them and the Colts out for the AFC South.
21. Las Vegas Raiders (0-3)
Last week: 15
The Raiders aren’t as bad as their record suggests, but wins need to start coming in a hurry or else they will be in danger of being left behind in the AFC West.
22. Arizona Cardinals (1-2)
Last week: 17
The Cardinals are lucky they aren’t 0-3 right now. The carrot of a DeAndre Hopkins return dangles in Week 7, but Arizona has to show improvement in other areas for it to matter.
23. New England Patriots (1-2)
Last week: 18
The Patriots have not looked very good this season and now won’t have Mac Jones for several weeks due to a high-ankle sprain. Can Bill Belichick work his magic?
24. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2)
Last week: 22
The questions about Mitchell Trubisky are getting louder. Is it almost Kenny Pickett time?
25. Chicago Bears (2-1)
Last week: 28
The Bears are tied for first place in the NFC North!
26. Atlanta Falcons (1-2)
Last week: 27
The Falcons have been quite competitive early on. A few more weeks of this and they will fly into the low-20s of these rankings.
27. Carolina Panthers (1-2)
Last week: 32
Nice win over the Saints, but can Carolina keep it up?
28. New York Giants (2-1)
Last week: 26
The Giants lost at home to a backup quarterback. As expected, the fast start was a mirage.
29. Houston Texans (0-2-1)
Last week: 26
The Texans continue to play in close games, and continue to not win them.
30. Washington Commanders (1-2)
Last week: 29
Another season of despair in Washington is on the way.
31. Seattle Seahawks (1-2)
Last week: 30
Pete Carroll’s unrelenting positivity can’t change this reality: the Seahawks are bad.
32. New York Jets (1-2)
Last week: 32
I knew the Jets would be back here. A lopsided loss to the Bengals drops them.
