The Jacksonville Jaguars are the only team to win a game in the AFC South through two weeks after throttling the Colts, 24-0, on Sunday.
Jacksonville has looked good early on, as quarterback Trevor Lawrence is top-5 in the NFL in ESPN’s Total QBR and the team is No. 2 in Football Outsiders’ Team DVOA.
However, it hasn’t been enough to move the needle with oddsmakers, as Jacksonville still has the third-best odds to win the division.
The Colts are the favorites despite an inauspicious start. They needed a frenetic fourth-quarter rally to tie the Texans in the opener before getting destroyed in Jacksonville.
Veteran quarterback Matt Ryan is No. 27 in Total QBR and star linebacker Shaquille Leonard has missed the first two games after having back surgery in June.
But the bookies still like the pedigree of Indianapolis, which has a big game this week against the Chiefs, while the Jaguars play the Chargers.
The Titans are the only 0-2 team in the division after getting demolished by the Bills on Monday night. Despite that showing, and a loss to the Giants in Week 1, Tennessee is still right in the mix for the AFC South.
The Houston Texans have been competitive in their first two contests but don’t have a win to show for it, and there is not a ton of faith that they will be in contention as the season moves along.
It’s interesting to see that the Jaguars have not yet moved the needle, but if Lawrence continues to shine, that could change quickly. Jacksonville finished with the worst record in the NFL last season and is looking to surprise with a playoff push in 2022.
