It’s been a frenetic few months for the Phoenix Suns, who have dealt with an owner controversy, rampant Kevin Durant trade rumors, a Jae Crowder holdout and injuries to Chris Paul and Cameron Johnson.
And yet, through 20 games, they sit atop the Western Conference standings and are the betting favorites to finish as the No. 1 seed at the end of the season.
Those odds have been unveiled by DraftKings, which posits the Suns as the +160 favorite to finish with the top spot in the Western Conference. The Denver Nuggets have the second-best odds at +330, followed by the Memphis Grizzlies at +400.
Phoenix has a record of 14-6 this year and sits a game up on the Nuggets and two on the Grizzlies. Most encouraging is the average margin of victory, as the Suns sit at +6.7, which is 5.3 points per game higher than both Denver and Memphis.
The Suns finished as the No. 1 seed last year before flaming out in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Dallas Mavericks.
The oddsmakers think Phoenix is a legitimate title contender, as its odds are as +700 to win the championship over at FanDuel. The best value for a Suns NBA title futures bet is as DraftKings, which lists them at +1000.
