Spreadex isn’t your standard online bookmaker. Founded by city trader Jonathan Hufford in 1999, Spreadex has carved a niche in the UK market as the only place offering fixed odds betting and spread betting from the same account. For those that are interested, Spreadex also offers a marketplace for financial traders buying and selling shares, bonds, interest rates and more.

Intrigued? We’ll run you through all the essential information on this page, starting with the Spreadex sign up offer: £40 in free bets when you wager £10 of your own money.

Our Spreadex Review

Spreadex is a point of difference. In a heavily saturated market like the UK betting scene, that difference is not just welcome, but needed.

The ability to place spread bets will interest many sports fans, particularly those who are familiar with US sportsbooks, where this type of wager is common. I’m impressed by Spreadex’s in-play and live streaming facilities, which is superior to many other sites I’ve reviewed.

Round this off with a bespoke mobile app and excellent odds, and it’s clear that Spreadex occupies an important position in the UK’s online betting landscape.

I’d like to see a few more promotions for existing players; there were a few offers that interested me during my review, but other bookmakers outperform Spreadex here. As a policy, Spreadex also rejects deposits made via third-party payment providers, which rules out all e-wallets, which may be an issue for some punters.

Is Spreadex a Trustworthy and Safe Brand?

Our betting reviews always start with a licensing check, because we’re not interested in promoting unlicensed sites. For UK operators, this refers to a licence from the UK Gambling Commission; without this, we won’t ever recommend a betting site to our UK readers.

Betting licences commit operators to standards of fair play and data protection, as well as the promotion of responsible gambling behaviours and tools. Click on the Responsible Gambling button at the bottom of the Spreadex homepage for more information on this.

Personal Experience Using Spreadex

There’s lots to like about Spreadex. For starters, it’s trying something new. With the UK betting landscape so saturated, it’s refreshing to see a new approach to sports betting.

Those already familiar with spread betting will be inclined to try this out at Spreadex; for the uninitiated, I encourage you to have a go. Spread bets change the dynamic of betting, rewarding those who make successful predictions with increased payouts. It also expands the odds market by introducing new ways to make a profit. Of course, this all comes with the caveat that spread betting can work against the bettor in equal measure.

Spreadex’s in-play and live streaming facilities are excellent, as is the mobile app. In terms of improvements, I’d like a few more ongoing promotions for returning players, and an extension of the available payment methods, which currently includes debit cards only.

If Spreadex is piquing your interest, click through, sign up, and claim £40 of free bets as a new customer.

Spreadex will also throw in an extra £1 race index spread bet for good measure, so this offer actually totals £41 in all.

Spreadex Sign Up Offer Terms and Conditions

As ever, there are a number of terms and conditions bettors must reckon with if they want to turn a profit from the Spreadex sign up offer. Let’s take a look at these in detail:

  • Minimum deposit and bet — The Spreadex welcome offer will only be released after customers have deposited £10 into their account and placed it on a fixed odds market.
  • Minimum odds — That qualifying bet must be placed on an event with minimum odds of 1/2.
  • Market restrictions — The qualifying bet must also be placed on fixed odds, as opposed to spread betting. Qualifying bets cannot be placed in-play or cashed out early.
  • Time limits — The welcome offer must be claimed within 28 days of opening your Spreadex account. Free bets will then expire 28 days after being credited.
  • Bonus release — Spreadex will credit the bonuses in two stages. Punters will receive £20 in free bets after the settlement of the qualifying wager, and the second £20 24 hours later.

Unusually there’s no mention of any payment restrictions with this offer — a common condition of sports betting bonuses that typically only makes debit card deposits eligible. Make sure you double check this before making a financial commitment.

Spreadex Existing Customer Promotions and Regular Offers

Returning Spreadex customers will also be treated to a range of ongoing promotions covering different sports and betting markets. There were seven of these available during my review — here are the ones that caught my eye.

Acca Boost

Successful accumulators will receive boosted returns when placed on an eligible football market. The boost is 5% on three-legs, 10% on four, 15% on five, rising to a maximum of 75% on 16.

2nd to a Rag Insurance

If you back a horse that loses to a runner with a starting price of 33/1 or higher, Spreadex will return your stake in the form of a free bet up to a maximum of £25.

Refer and Earn

Spreadex customers will be rewarded with a £100 total goals spread bet if they successfully refer a friend to sign up to the site.

On Which Sports Can You Apply the Sign Up Offer?

There are no sports restrictions attached to the welcome offer. That means you can use your £40 free bets on any of Spreadex’s 27 sports markets. Aussie Rules, beach volleyball and handball make up some of the smaller sports in this list, but here are three of the most popular markets at Spreadex.

Racing

Horse and greyhound racing events are well-covered, with live streaming available on both. Between the two, there were 14 in-play markets on offer during the time of my review, covering events in the UK, Australia and Europe.

Football

Covering the Premier Leagues of Ethiopia and the Faroe Islands — and a hell of a lot more — there’s no shortage of football action at Spreadex, as you’d expect. Live streaming is possible, and there are a number of football betting markets on offer that I’ve not seen anywhere else, such as those focusing on the shirt numbers of goal scorers in a given match.

Cricket

From the Lanka Premier League to the Legends Cricket League and everything in between, there’s a range of cricket markets covering T10, T20, domestic, franchise and international competitions. Live streaming is also available.

  • American Football
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Darts
  • eSports
  • F1 and Motorsports

Spreadex Key Sportsbook Features: What Makes Signing up Worthwhile?

Spreadex is a betting site with a point of difference, which makes it interesting to prospective customers. Here are some Spreadex features that makes this bookmaker stand out from the crowd.

Spread Betting

Spreadex claims to be the only UK bookie to offer standard fixed odds betting markets alongside spread betting — a wager that rewards the accuracy of a wager and its margin of victory.

For instance, if you were to bet on England to beat Sri Lanka in a Test match by 150 runs, your payout would be dependent on a) whether they were to win by 150 runs, and b) the margin of victory beyond this amount. If England were to win by 300 runs, you’d effectively double your winnings.

But spread betting works in both ways. Wagers that are highly inaccurate will suffer higher losses than just the stake laid down. It’s an interesting betting dynamic that offers something a little different to other bookies.

In-Play Betting

While in-play betting is par for the course at modern bookmakers, Spreadex’s emphasis on spread betting increases the number of in-play markets at any given time. There are more potential outcomes to bet on, and therefore a higher number of markets. This extends to Spreadex’s approach to cashing out, which is offered in three formats: one-click cash out, auto cash out and partial cash out.

Live Streaming

The bets in-play betting sites back this up with live streaming facilities, which is exactly what Spreadex customers have access to. At the time of my review, there were 25 different streaming events taking place — a huge number by any standards. The majority of these live events were cricket, but horse racing, greyhound racing and basketball markets were also available.

Competitive Odds

Although all of our recommended bookies offer competitive odds, Spreadex was voted the best value bookmaker by Oddschecker on fixed odds markets during the 22-23 Premier League season. Again, this is in large part thanks to the possible for spread bets, which expands the potential for wider margins. Of course, it’s important to remember this can go the other way.

Mobile App

For a superior mobile betting experience, Spreadex customers can download the bookie’s bespoke mobile app on Android and iOS devices. Betting apps offer faster loading times, customisable interfaces, and bonus and promotion notifications — for these reasons and more, we always recommending downloading mobile betting apps whenever possible.
