Spain’s History at the Euros

Spain are the nation who have won the joint most European Championships with three to their name. They are also the only nation to win two European Championships in a row when they won it in 2008 and 2012 while also winning a World Cup in between those years. Their recent form in the tournament however has not been as impressive, in 2021 they reached the semi-finals of the tournament while in 2016 they were eliminated in the round of 16. Below we will be discussing Spain’s odds of winning Euro 2024.

Euro 2024 Group Breakdown

The teams are broken down into six groups ranging from Group A to Group F. Spain were placed in Group B which many labelled the Group of Death due to the calibre of teams in this group. The group consisted of reigning champions Italy, World Cup semi-finalists Croatia and Albania. Despite this tough group, Spain picked up all 9 points and were impressive in every game.

Euro 2024 Schedule

Spain have reached the finals of Euro 2024 and will face either England on July 14th.

Top Players For Spain in Euro 2024

With a tough group in their way, Spain will need their main players to show up on the big stage. The Spanish squad is packed with talent from defence to attack. Here are the three main Spanish players to look out for in this tournament.

Rodri

Rodri has proven himself to be one of the best players in the world in recent years. He is a crucial player for the best team in the world right now and arguably could have won Player of the Season in this year’s Premier League. His composure and calmness in midfield is fantastic and he linked up well with Barcelona’s Pedri in the Spanish midfield before Pedri was injured against Germany. Rodri has also shown that he has an eye for a goal, scoring a crucial goal against Georgia when the team were 1-0 down. You can back Rodri to win the Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament on BetMGM at odds of 3/1.

Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata always seemed to be someone who wasn’t able to achieve his potential with uninspiring spells at teams like Chelsea. However, he has seen his goalscoring form increase since joining Atletico Madrid and came up with 15 league goals for them this season. He is currently Spain’s fifth all-time top goalscorer with a very respectable 36 goals in 77 games. Despite this, the Spanish striker can still be quite wasteful in front of the net and although he is elite at getting into goalscoring positions, sometimes his finishing lets him down. He has been leading the line for Spain at this year’s tournament but has struggled for goals only scoring once so far. He can be backed at 40/1 to be the top scorer at Euro 2024.

Pedri

Still only 21, it feels like Pedri has been in the game forever. He broke into the Spain and Barcelona setup at a very early age and has proven to be a crucial member of both teams. The young midfielder missed a number of games for Barcelona this season due to injury however, he managed to make himself available for this year’s Euros. His partnership with Rodri was great to watch until unfortunately, Pedri picked up an injury against Germany in the quarter-finals which ruled him out for the rest of the tournament. Fortunately for Spain, Dani Olmo has entered the starting lineup  and has been a massive success scoring two crucial goals against Germany and France

Spain’s Rising Star – Lamine Yamal

Lamine Yamal has been absolutely outstanding this summer. Many people were excited to see the 16-year-old play after he impressed for Barcelona. The young winger has completely exceeded expectations so far. Many were expecting an exciting and tricky winger who was still a bit away from the final product. However, Yamal has shown that he is much more than just a tricky winger, showcasing his eye for a goal and assist throughout the summer. His goal in the semi final against France was out of this world and he has also provided three assists so far. Yamal is now the favourite for both Young Player of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament.

Route to the Final

Spain have confirmed themselves as finalists and will England July 14th.

Top scorer odds for Euro 2024

You can also bet on who you believe will be the Euro 2024 top scorer. Harry Kane is the favourite for the award at odds of 7/4. Dani Olmo is the Spanish player with the lowest odds to win the award at 5/2. Both Kane and Olmo are tied at three goals each.

Team for Spain at the Euros

Luis de la Fuente has a strong team to choose from for this year’s tournament. Below I will be talking you through the starting 11 for Spain at Euro 2024.

Goalkeeper

Despite David Raya’s winning the Premier League Golden Glove with Arsenal this season, De La Fuente has been playing Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Defenders

Real Madrid man Dani Carvajal is starting at right-back despite Pedro Porro’s terrific season at Tottenham. At Centre back, Aymeric Laporte looks to be the first-choice player; with Robin Le Normand playing with him after he had a great season at the club level.

Chelsea player Marc Cucurella has been first choice at left back despite Alex Grimaldo’s great season with Bayer Leverkusen.

Midfielders

Rodri is by far the best-holding midfielder in the world right now, and he is one of the first names on the Spanish team sheet. Pedri was always going to partner him and with Fabian Ruiz impressing at PSG this season, it is him who occupies the last spot. Pedri’s injury in the quarter-finals has seen Dani Olmo enter the starting lineup.

Attackers

Spain would love to have an elite striker like when they had David Villa or Fernando Torres during their last European Championship win. However, they don’t, so Alvaro Morata is leading the line for Spain in this tournament. Lamine Yamal has been fantastic this tournament on the wing with Nico Williams also impressing on the opposite flank.

All and all this is a very talented Spain squad who promise to excite at this year’s tournament.
