Bet Editing is a relatively new feature to the online betting space that offers punters the chance to change the bets in their selection either before an event has started or in-play. Bet editing differs from site to site, with some bookies allowing you to both add and remove bets from your selection, while others only give you the option of removing certain bets. Nonetheless, the feature is an excellent new addition to online sports betting, giving customers greater choice when they place their bets.
How it Works
How Bet Editing Works
Bet editing works differently depending on the bookie, with some sites giving you the option to both reduce and increase the size of your selection while others limit your choice to just removing your unwanted bets. Generally speaking, all variations of bet editing rely on whether the selections you want to change have cash out available.
Let’s say that one of the bets in your selection is off to a bad start and you want to swap it for another bet that looks more certain. In order to do that, the bookie will take the cash out value of your unwanted bet and use that to place a new bet on your new selection. The principle is the same if you just want to remove a bet from your selection, with the cash out value of the bet you want to remove being placed on the remaining selection.
If you’re feeling good about your chosen bets, then some bookies will allow you to edit your bet by adding to your selection. When you choose to do this, your new bet(s) will be staked on the cash out value of your original selection.
Remember that all new bets will be based on up to date prices and your potential returns will be updated accordingly.
Step by Step
How to Edit Your Bet
Chances are that not every bet you place is going to go to plan. You might have backed Arsenal to beat Burnley as part of a four-fold accumulator, but after conceding two early goals, the Gunners don’t look the sure bet they once did. As such, in order to still be in with a shout of collecting some decent winnings, you might want to swap out this selection for something more valuable. Let’s have a look how you would go about doing that.
Select your unwanted bet
Before you start making changes to your betslip, you’re going to need to be sure that you’re comfortable with making the change. Anything can happen in sport, so make sure you’ve done your research about the bet you’re about to change to ensure that the decision you make is a considered one.
Edit your betslip
In order to start editing your betslip, you will need to head to the ‘My Bets’ or ‘My Acca’ section of your chosen site. Here you will either be given the ability to edit your bet slip directly or via the ‘Cash Out’ section of that page. This will enable you to cash out the bet you want to change and use that value on potential alternatives.
Choose your new selection
After you’ve chosen the bet you wish to change, you will then be able to select your new one. Some bookies might limit you to the same market — meaning that if your initial bet was on the ‘Popular Goalscorer ‘ market, then so does your new bet. Other bookies, however, will give you more choice, allowing you to place your new bet on a wider range of markets.
Save your changes
Once you’ve made your choice and laid the cash out value of your old bet as a stake, you need to save the changes made to your betslip. If you fail to do so, then you may lose your new bet and risk the prices changing.
Live Betting
Editing Bets In-Play
As long as the result of a bet is unsettled, then you are free to edit it as far as your chosen bookie will allow. This means that you are able to make changes to your bet as the event is still ongoing. It’s important to note that because these bets will be made on the live market, they are likely to change with events in that match or race. As such, it is important to keep track of the action to ensure that the changes you’re making to your betslip are made at the best possible moment.
Tips
How to Edit Your Betslip Well
Swapping out your losing bets for some safer options might sound like a win-win situation, but there are still a few things you should keep in mind before you make your changes.
Make Sure Bet is Valid for Editing
Bet editing is usually only available on bets that you can cash out, as it will be these funds that you use to place your new wager. What’s more, you may not be able to edit any bets placed using a promotion or bonus, meaning free bets or matched deposits cannot be changed once placed. On top of this, while some sites will allow you to edit bets placed using a promotion, it may affect the eligibility of that promotion. That’s why it’s really important to check out the terms and conditions of a bonus or promotion before you sign up to it.
Do Your Research
You should only ever edit your bet when you’re confident that the changes you’re making are well-researched and based in logic. As such, it’s a good idea to keep track of the event via live updates if it’s being televised, ensuring that any change you make isn’t made out of impulsiveness or recklessness.
Weigh up the Risks
Bookies place margins on all their listed bets so that they can still remain financially viable, meaning that when you cash out one bet and place it immediately on another, you are paying for double margins. As such, it’s important that you are sure that you will be making money when you edit your bet. We recommend doing some research into the bets you are editing as well using the feature as rarely as you can.
Mobile
Editing Bets on Mobile
Betting on the go with your mobile phone has never been more popular, with thousands of punters now preferring to place their bets right from the palm of their hands. As such, by playing with the right bookies, you will also be able to edit your bets from your mobile too. For the best experience, we would recommend that you sign up to a site that offers a native app. Not only will the faster processing speeds of a native app make editing your bet faster and easier, but push notifications will also keep you up to date with the latest bonuses and odds changes.
While bet editing is certainly offered at some of the more established names in the betting industry, the feature is also offered by some of the newer bookies. In order to stand out from the competition, new betting sites will often include the ability to edit your bet alongside other exciting features like player-friendly bonuses and stunning website aesthetics to give punters something different to what’s offered by traditional sites.

Ready to Play?
That’s all there is to bet editing, it’s really as easy as that. As long as your bet is eligible for cash out and you’re not using the feature to chase any losses, then bet editing is a great alternative to simply accepting a losing bet. So have a look through our list of top betting sites, pick your favourite and sign up today!
There is nothing to stop you from cashing out a bet that has already been edited. Nevertheless, it is worth bearing in mind that, because your stake in this bet was itself a cash out, your potential winnings may be smaller than they would be from your initial stake. As such, we recommend you use the Edit Bet feature as infrequently as possible and only when you are certain you will be getting good value from it.
Absolutely. Betting via your mobile is now easier and safer than ever before, with the best betting sites offering customers native apps. If they don’t provide a native app, then the site will have a fully optimised mobile site that will allow you to edit your bet just as easily you would via the desktop counterpart.
This will depend on which site you use. Some bookies will limit you to the market your initial bet was made in, while other sites will give you free rein of their available markets to choose your replacement bet.
The best bookies will provide live streaming of high profile sporting events so that players can make the most informed decisions when editing their bets. Most sites that provide live streaming will require you to have a funded account or have placed a bet within the last 24 hours, but this is a small price to pay to watch some of the best sporting action on the planet.
At Compare.bet, we would never list a betting site that doesn’t hold the relevant licence. All betting sites in the UK are required to hold a licence from the UK Gambling Commission, which ensures that each transaction made with a site is secure and that the company is operating legally.
